How to apply for the solar grant

No. Works must not start before you get SEAI's grant offer. Sign with an installer, apply, wait for the offer, then the panels go up. Start first and you lose the grant.

The steps

Pick an SEAI-registered solar company. Get a price, agree a formal contract, but don't start.
Apply to SEAI for the grant offer. Wait for the offer before anything is fitted. Offers are valid for 8 months.
The installer applies to ESB Networks. Before the install. It takes at least 4 weeks (20 working days).
The panels are fitted. You pay the installer, or arrange a payment agreement.
Get a post-works BER. An SEAI-registered BER assessor rates the home after the install. It's part of the claim.
The installer sends the evidence to SEAI. Electronically, with the completion paperwork.
SEAI pays. Allow up to 6 weeks, longer if SEAI inspects.

Your MPRN, from your electricity bill.
The installer's name and their SEAI registration.
An email address for SEAI's offer.
Your existing BER, if you have one, so the installer can check the C rule.

Questions people ask

Who applies, me or the installer?

You apply for the grant offer; the installer handles ESB Networks and sends the completion evidence to SEAI. Many installers help with the application.

What if my offer runs out?

Offers are valid for 8 months. If the job won't be done in time, talk to SEAI before it expires.
