SEAI pays a flat €600 towards a battery of 5kWh or more, on top of the panel grant of up to €1,800. A battery on its own, with no panels, can get it too.

Panels about €5,000 to €8,200 after the €1,800 panel grant
€1,800 for 4kWp of panels (about 12 or 13 panels) plus €600 for a battery of 5kWh or more on a semi-detached house. At SEAI's typical €1,700 to €2,500 per kWp (€6,800 to €10,000 before the grant), the panels come to €5,000 to €8,200 after the grant, plus €1,300 to €2,400 for a 5 to 10kWh battery less its €600 grant. 0% VAT.

What a battery does
Panels make most of their power in the middle of the day, when many homes use little. A battery stores it for the evening, so more of what you make is used in the house instead of sold to the grid.
A 5 to 10kWh battery fitted with the panels typically adds €1,300 to €2,400 to the job, before its €600 grant; the biggest home batteries cost over €4,000. Ask for the battery to be priced separately on the quote. Fitted with the panels it's 0% VAT, the same as the panels.

Can I get the battery grant on its own?
SEAI's page sets the battery grant alongside the solar PV grant. If you already have panels, ask SEAI or the installer before you buy.
Is €2,400 the cap with the battery?
Yes. The panels get up to €1,800 and the battery a flat €600, so €2,400 is the most a home gets.
