Five rules decide it. Check them before you sign with an installer.

Owners of homes built and occupied before 2025, with an MPRN. SEAI can't have supported solar PV at that address before, a BER assessor rates the home after the panels go in, and you must use an SEAI-registered solar company and have the grant offer before work starts.

The five rules

Built and occupied before 2025. SEAI's support covers owners of dwellings built and occupied before 2025. Homes built after that are not covered.
No earlier SEAI solar support at the address. If a previous owner got a solar PV grant there, the home can't get another.
An SEAI-registered solar company. You find and appoint one and agree a formal contract.
The offer before the work. Works must not start before you receive the grant offer.
A post-works BER. An SEAI-registered BER assessor rates the home after the panels go in. There's no set rating to reach.

Who it leaves out

Homes built, or first lived in, from 2025 on.
Homes where SEAI already paid for solar PV.
Jobs started before the grant offer.

Panels on any home still have 0% VAT.

Questions people ask

Can I get the grant on a house built in 2012?

No. SEAI's solar grant covers homes built and occupied before 2025.

We bought the house and the old owner had a solar grant. Can we apply?

No. SEAI won't fund solar PV at an address it has supported before.

Does it apply to apartments?

SEAI's page says owners of dwellings built and occupied before 2025. An apartment usually needs its own roof space or the management company's agreement, which the installer will raise.
